Drawing closer to God means walking in close fellowship with God through Christ, I probably believe you know that but how is that done?...
The Bible says;
"draw near to God and he will draw near to you, cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded people". —James 4:8.
This scripture describes everything about drawing closer to God, one it emphasizes that we must clean our hands. In Biblical context , the hands symbolize the works or deeds we do in our daily actions and you must check your life by looking at the things you do daily. Examine whether those deeds please God orif it is not something you should be doing.
Second we find the purifying of our hearts. We can't be made holy or purified unless we have had contact with the blood of Christ Jesus. What makes us unholy is the presence of sin within us and what makes us holy is it's absence in our lives.
Before proceeding read Romans 6:1–14 so that you may get the whole picture, verse 6 states
"; for we know that our old self was crucified with Christ in order that sin's dominion over the body may be abolished so we may no longer be enslaved to sin."
This happens AT baptism and it's where God frees us from the power of sin meaning that we can walk a holy life in close relationship with the Son of God being lead by the Holy Spirit. see,Acts 2:37–40, Mark 16:16.
.Revelations 3:15–16 expresses that we must not be double minded, meaning that if we decide to belong to God, let us not turn back to the devil or to darkness or to the evil lifestyle we used to live. We must also keep our faith in Christ, we must believe that He is God's son and that in His desire to rescue our souls from eternal judgment, He died for us sinners and we must be able to respond to this great love by accepting him as Lord of our lives and be willing to walk under the guidance of his word.
Drawing closer to God means we shall have to dedicate time for God, time to pray, time to worship, time to fast, time to reading of scriptures which will all help us to continue understanding Christ and his plan for our lives and the entire world (Joshua 1:8-9)
Hebrews 10:22 says; let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
That's how we must approach God and remember that we must seek the Lord while he may be found and call upon his name while he is near and let the wicked forsake his ways and the unrighteous forsake his thoughts and return to God and God will have compassion on them and abundantly pardon, so drawing closer to God takes time, commitment, trust, faith in God and doing the will of God by following and implementing what he says in his word.
I'm in prayer for you and other disciples of Christ Jesus are in prayer for you as you consider drawing more closer to God as you are already doing.
